January 28 Day 22
After 3 weeks............
So far so good. We had a couple of people with some up weeks, but that's ok. We have all have days that are going to be harder than others, we just have to keep working. Remember, it's not always the actual number, if your pants are looser that's a good thing too.
Check out the "weight tracker" to the left of the blog. Overall, we are down 206 pounds. Together we lost a whole person! Current standings are below, if you weren't here for weigh ins, I used last week's weight. February is around the corner, if you can get me the $ by next Friday that would be great. Everyone keep up the good work!
The standings so far - Congrats to our leaders - Bonnie, David Sr and Team 4!
January 21 Day 15After 2 weeks.......
We're doing good, everyone is still on track. Remember this is a marathon not a sprint, and every step we are taking is only improving our lives for the better.
Combined we are 5431.0 pounds, for a total loss to date of 174.4 pounds! We now have an average of 201.1 pounds per person, and we lost 3.11% of our starting weight! Congratualtions to everyone! Current rankings are listed below and if I didn't get your weight this week, I used the number from the previous week. Everyone keep up the good work, and I'll see you next Monday for weigh ins!
The standings so far:
Congrats to our leaders - Bonnie for the women, Matt for the men, and Team 4 for the groups!

January 16 Just some thoughtsBeing Wednesday, I went to everyone's desk this morning to see how they were holding up with our Challenge. Most people were great and had the same enthusiasm and dedication as last week, but a few were a little less motivated this morning.
Dieting isn't easy, it's not normally fun and 12 weeks is a long time. But I have shocked myself as to how well I've held up for 10 days with the exercise and food, and I've had fun doing this. I really like the team concept and it's helped keep me motivated. Normally I would have caved into my old routine by now because it's easier and more time effiecient, or so I thought. My mother said "You have a different perspective when others are depending on you".
My life is hectic, as is the life every other parent, child, mother/father, spouse, person's life that's in this pool. I've often joked that I need a vacation just to catch up on my life. There's only so much time in a day/week and we have to fit in work, helping with homework, grocery shopping, making dinner, cleaning the house, spending time with your family, dropping off and picking up the kids from sporting events, paying bills, doing laundry, refereeing fights between the kids and everything that I didn't list that goes into running a household and having a family or just having a life. Now I have to fit in exercise too? But since this started, there's a brand new schedule and some new priorities, and if I mess this up, Jr will never let me hear the end of it! LOL!! My scheduling may get creative, but it can be done. I've cooked healthy dinners almost everynight, the nights I didn't cook, we had leftovers. But I haven't ordered take out 10 days and i've gone to the gym more times in 10 days than I have gone in 6 months. Some nights have been a struggle, but it got done, and so far it's been worth it.
12 weeks seem like a long time now, but it will be here sooner than you realize. Stay focused. We're all going to be just fine.
January 14 Day 8
After 1 week.........
Our first weigh in, to measure our success so far, was today. If you weren't weighed in, I will use your previous week's weight.
Please remember everyone’s body is different. Some bodies may have been very friendly to the new diet and lifestyle and were able to drop a lot of weight. Some bodies may be resisting the change and not a lot of weight was dropped. Some bodies may be REALLY resisting the change and you could have gained some or not lose anything at all, (it's not unusual, Don't get discouraged!). And some bodies may fall in the middle and consistently lose the same amount every week. Whatever body yours happens to be, be proud of the work you've done so far, and stick to it. This is just the first week. March 31st is a ways off; there is plenty of time to reach your goal.
After the initial weigh in, our total weight for the 27 of us was 5605.4 pounds. That's an average of 207.6 pounds per person. After today, our total weight is 5491.3 pounds, an average of 203.4 pounds per person. Combined we lost 114.1 pounds, which is 2.04% of our starting weight! Great job, everyone!!!
Let's track the weights again next Monday to measure our progress. Get me between 8-9 in the morning, and we'll have the scale in the kitchen back by my office.
Keep up the good work!!

January 09 Day 3
Let's get Moving!!!
I saw everyone today to see how they are doing, and everyone looks like they are doing great and still on board. I'm hoping it's not just the honeymoon phase, and we all stay this motivated and dedicated for the entire 12 weeks. I'm hoping over the next 12 weeks it won't get tougher, but we will be more accustomed to the new life style.
We've got some more team photos loaded, the 2 teams remaining without before pictures are Team 4 and Team 5, I'll try again tomorrow. Speaking of Team 4, Jill is out right now with bronchitis. We all wish her a speedy recovery! When she comes back to work, I'll see if she still wants to be in the pool. If she doesn't (I don't know if I would want to start dieting after bronchitis) that's ok. Her health comes first, and we'll cross that bridge if/when we get there.
I've been holding off on publishing team weights. There were mixed reviews about that being a good idea. I was thinking after we weigh in Monday, I can send out the team and individual percentages lost. Let me know if that's okay or if you want to know your team's staring point. It would just take me a few minutes to type everything Thursday night, but I would have to know if you want the team weight sent to everyone or only your team.
Watch out for Team #9 folks, they mean business! Lauren came in Tuesday asking Patty if they wanted to walk during their lunch break. They were going to circle the parking lot since it was nice out. Patty drove the perimeter of the parking lot in her car to measure the distance, and 5 laps equal 1 mile. So today, a walking club begin. Patty, Lauren, Erin, Madalyn and myself brought in sneakers and we did the "Haddon House mile". For anyone interested, meet at 12:30pm by the time clock. Bring your sneakers and a change of shirt if needed. It took less than 1/2 hour to get 1 mile done. Lauren and Patty are doing this every day, warm or cold (I'm telling you they are a force!) so bring appropriate clothing. One more note on this, David Sr. said on days that the weather is bad, we are more than welcome to do laps in the warehouse. A very generous offer on the rainy awful winter days. Thanks David!! So if you're not able to go to a gym or don't want to walk by yourself at night, this is a great opportunity at lunch time for everyone to take advantage of.
Remember, we are all in this together, no one is by themselves, at all. If you need someone to talk to about your diet, exercise or even a little moral support, grab someone in the pool, even if they are not on your own team. There are 26 of us in the office, that's just about 50% of the employees! We're in almost every department and everyone can spare a minute if needed.
Until next time....
Kim O January 07 Day 1The Initial Weigh-Ins
Today was a great day! We have a total of 27 people (yes 27! woo hoo!) in the pool now, so we are going to have 9 teams of 3. There were 2 people missing from the initial weigh-ins today, but we'll get them tomorrow. I got before pictures of 3 teams, some of people were camera shy, but I will ambush them tomorrow too, whether they like it or not. ;)
Today during the initial weigh-ins, it was a little tough. No one was particularly fond of their number, but that's why we all decided to do this. For the 25 people weighed, our combine weight was over 5200 pounds. But the great thing was everyone was so excited to finally get started, and we were all talking about our diets and strategies. We have people doing Weight Watchers, Atkins, South Beach, and diets that didn't have a particular name, but watching calories and incorporating more excersise in their daily lives.
Overall I think everyone was supportive of each other, 1/2 of the office is doing this together. But the competitive spirit is coming out in everyone, too. There has been talk of ordering pizza for people on other teams, cooking fattening meals and putting them in the kitchen to see who will cave, having companies take people out to lunch at fattening places, and so on. I call it sabbotage, others would say they are testing each others will power, but it's all in good fun, at least I hope it is. LOL! The teams are mixed from people in different departments, we pulled numbers out of a hat to see what team they'll be in. If anything, there will be inter-office communication that never was there before, which I think is a good thing no matter what the weight results end up being.
We're going to do weigh-ins every Monday to keep track of our progress, and on the 28th of this month will be the next "official" weigh-in so we can see exactly where the teams stand.
I'll post the rest of the teams when I get their pictures, and I'll send out this link so the entire pool can take a look at the page and add their own thoughts. I need to go now if I'm ever going to make the gym tomorrow morning!
Until next week....

January 02 About Us/Getting Started
The Haddon House Biggest Loser Pool
Haddon House is a specialty food distributor whose corporate office is located in Medford, New Jersey. I (Kim) have been an employee there for over 14 years. I was watching the season finale of the Biggest Loser a couple of weeks ago and was inspired to do something about my weight, but I didn’t want to do it by myself. Eating healthy at home isn't so hard, but what kills me is what I eat work. Working for a specialty food distributor means there is all sorts of food in the office tempting me all day long. And my position at the company is a food buyer, more specifically the candy buyer, which means there is twice as much temptation in my offiice with candy and cookies I look at everyday. Also being a mother, I often do errands on my lunch hour so I have more time in the evening to cook, clean, help with homework and spend time with my family. So I either don’t eat at lunch, or I make very bad choices when I do eat. So as I watched the finale, and saw the 1,000,000 pound challenge advertised, I thought if being at work was my downfall then maybe I should ask my co-workers if they wanted to diet with me. They face the same obstacles I do every day in the office, and if I was going to “suffer”, wouldn’t be more enjoyable if others were suffering with me; the more the merrier, right?
The next day I sent out a general email to all of the office employees (there are about 50 of us or so, maybe a little more), that at the beginning of the year we could do a Biggest Loser Pool. We have football pools, lottery pools, baby pools, why not start a pool that we could all benefit from? I thought I would be lucky if 5 people said yes. I couldn’t have been more surprised when my inbox was flooded with emails of people saying that they were in. We have a grand total of 25 people in the pool now!
The basic guidelines are that we each pay $10 per month. The pool is going to start Monday January 7th, and end Monday March 31st. We are going to split up into 5 teams of 5. Prizes will be awarded to the team with the largest percentage of weight loss as well as the individual male and female with the largest percentage of weight loss. Everyone’s enthusiasm has been remarkable. This afternoon there were so many people talking about how they couldn’t wait for Monday to come. I work with a great bunch of people, and I know that this experience will be a positive one for all of us.
I will be back here regularly to post updates and pictures, and I hope my co-workers will post their thoughts and feelings too. I did make a promise to everyone that I would not tell their individual weights (which is why I went with a group website), so only team weights o individual percentages will be posted. But if someone loses 50 pounds, I’m certainly going to tell the world! That’s an amazing feat that anyone should be proud of.
Until next week…..
